FAQ

  1. Is a Solar Thermal system suitable for my home?

You will typically need around 4-6m2 of roof space facing anywhere from east to west to maximize the efficiency of your solar collectors. South facing is the optimum position.
  2. Is my current boiler suitable for use with Solar Thermal heating?

Many standard boilers and hot water systems can be used alongside our solar thermal systems. You may need space for an additional, or bigger hot water cylinder.

If you have a combination (combi) boiler, and do not have a hot water tank, a Solar Thermal system may not be best suited to your home. Ask us for more information.

  3. Do I need planning permission?

Most Solar Thermal systems can be installed without planning permission. You will require permission if your building is listed, in a conservation area or world heritage site.
  4. How much does a standard system cost?

A typical solar thermal system costs as little as 5,500 to 6,500, though this will vary depending on your requirements. Ask us for more information.
  5. How much will I save?
  6. After installation, your hot water costs will be reduced immediately. Depending on the system you choose and the position of your home, you could produce up to 70% of your hot water for FREE.

In addition you could increase the value of your home by up to 15,000

  7. What maintenance is required?

Maintenance costs are very low. We recommend a yearly visual check which you can  do yourself and a more thorough check by our professional team every 5 years.
  8. What are the benefits to the environment?

Solar Thermal Systems produce clean energy and do not release pollutants into the environment. Depending on your current system, it is estimated that you could cut your CO2 emissions by up to one tonne per year.
  9. What is the payback period?

Unlike your current energy suppliers who do not offer any payback at all, you'll be happy to know that solar does offer payback. To calculate payback for your system you should take into consideration future rises in energy prices, inflation and savings made in boiler maintenance. You should also consider the value a green investment can add to your home. In general, a solar thermal system offers a payback of between 7 and 15 years.
